Why a global logistics giant is betting on a water-from-air startup

DP World's 14% stake in Hyderabad's Maithri Aquatech signals growing interest from global supply chain operators in water security technology.

DP World, the Dubai-based global logistics and supply chain operator, has picked up a 14% stake in Maithri Aquatech, a Hyderabad-based manufacturer of atmospheric water generators, for an undisclosed sum. The strategic equity investment marks a notable move by a major supply chain player into water security technology.

Maithri Aquatech’s core product, branded ‘Meghdoot’, generates potable water from atmospheric humidity, reducing dependence on conventional water sources and infrastructure. The company said the DP World investment will help it pilot these systems in real-world operating environments across varied geographies, including logistics and industrial settings — precisely the kind of settings DP World operates in globally.

“The strategic investment of DP World reflects a shared belief that water security is not a peripheral challenge — it is central to the resilience of global trade, communities and ecosystems,” said Ramkrishna Mukkavilli, founder and managing director of Maithri Aquatech.

The deal also highlights the growing India-UAE collaboration in sustainability, trade and innovation, with Maithri’s headquarters, production and R&D operations all based in Hyderabad.
