MeitY approves two AI centres of excellence targeting 1,000+ jobs in Delhi
The Centre has approved two AI Centres of Excellence in Delhi under a joint funding model expected to create over 1,000 jobs.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has granted administrative approval for two AI Centres of Excellence (AICoE) in Delhi, at Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, under an initiative expected to generate more than 1,000 employment opportunities.
The centres will be backed by a joint funding model involving MeitY, the Delhi government and industry partners. According to a statement from Delhi’s IT Department, industry partner commitments and a key performance indicator framework have been submitted, with an MoU between MeitY and partner institutions currently being finalised.
The initiative also aims to support around 90-100 startups and train 6,000-7,000 individuals, while accelerating AI deployment across government departments to improve efficiency, transparency and public service delivery.
Delhi IT Minister Pankaj Singh reviewed the project on Wednesday alongside an AI IT training lab set up at Vikas Bhawan II, which officials said is fully ready and expected to become operational within a month once course content and AI-based learning applications are finalised.
