India’s home security camera market grows as budget brands like Consistent gain ground
Home security cameras are among India's fastest-growing smart home categories, with budget brands like Consistent challenging premium rivals on price and features.
Home security cameras have become one of the fastest-growing smart home categories in India, driven by falling prices, better internet connectivity and a growing need to monitor homes, offices and shops remotely. While established brands dominate the premium segment, Indian networking and surveillance company Consistent is trying to make a mark with feature-rich cameras at affordable prices.
One such product, the Consistent 3MP Smart Wi-Fi Bullet Camera CEYE Series (CT-CM-BW3M), is priced at Rs 2,699 and includes 3MP Full HD recording, all-time colour night vision, IP66 weather resistance, human detection, two-way audio, Alexa support, cloud recording and support for microSD cards up to 256GB. A review by TOI Tech Desk tested whether the camera delivers on these promises.
The review found setup to be simple, since the Wi-Fi camera requires no long network cables; pairing with the CEYE mobile app took a few minutes via a QR code scan and connection to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The 3MP resolution produced sharp daytime footage, while the All Time Color Technology retained colour footage even in low-light conditions.
The Smart Human Detection feature reduced unnecessary notifications by mostly alerting for people rather than passing animals or trees, with alerts reaching the phone within seconds. Users can choose local microSD storage of up to 256GB or cloud recording, and the camera’s IP66 weatherproof rating held up during testing despite changing weather conditions.
The review flagged some limitations, including reduced image quality at high digital zoom levels and an app that could benefit from a more polished interface, but concluded the camera offers solid value for buyers seeking an affordable outdoor security solution.
