Amazon India says more than 70% of new Prime membership sign-ups during this year's Prime Day came from tier 2 and 3 cities, which also led growth in premium motorcycle purchases.
More than 70% of new Amazon Prime membership sign-ups during this year’s Prime Day came from tier 2 and 3 cities, Amazon India said, reinforcing the membership programme’s reach beyond metro markets.
Smaller cities also led aspirational purchases during the sale. Two-wheeler sales grew 1.65X year-on-year, with premium bikes above Rs 1.5 lakh surging 2.3X, and seven in 10 buyers of Harley-Davidson, KTM and Triumph motorcycles coming from smaller cities. International home and kitchen brands grew 4.5X year-on-year in tier 2 and 3 cities, outpacing national growth.
Amazon said the 10th edition of Prime Day was its fastest ever, with one in two deal items delivered in minutes in cities with Amazon Now, and same-day deliveries surging more than 3X compared to last year. More than half of all orders were delivered before the event ended, with ultrafast service extending to cities such as Hoshiarpur, Ujjain and Dharwad.
Premium categories saw strong growth overall: premium beauty grew 3X year-on-year, premium grooming appliances above Rs 2,500 doubled, and premium TVs above Rs 35,000 grew 2X, with demand shifting toward larger screens of 65 inches and above.
The sale also recorded the highest-ever participation from small and medium businesses, with more than two-thirds of participating SMBs coming from tier 2 and 3 cities, underscoring Prime Day’s role in supporting entrepreneurship beyond India’s largest cities.
