India to hold FATF Vice-Presidency for first time as Vivek Aggarwal elected

India will hold the Vice-Presidency of the Financial Action Task Force for the first time, with Vivek Aggarwal elected to the post.

India will hold the Vice-Presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for the first time, with Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, elected and appointed to the post for the term July 2026 to June 2027, the Ministry of Finance said. Aggarwal is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

The Vice-President of the FATF is elected by the FATF Plenary from among its members and assists the President in steering the organisation’s work. The appointment places an Indian official at the apex of the global standard-setting body for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing.

The Ministry of Finance said India’s elevation to the Vice-Presidency reflects the credibility and trust the country has earned within the FATF Global Network of more than 200 jurisdictions. It said the appointment builds on India’s strong showing in its most recent Mutual Evaluation and its sustained contribution to shaping global policy on emerging risks, including those linked to virtual asset service providers and digital payments.

Aggarwal said the appointment “is a recognition of India’s collective effort and of the strength of our anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing framework,” adding that he looked forward to working with the FATF Global Network to keep the international financial system “safe, inclusive and resilient.” Revenue Secretary Shri Arvind Shrivatsava called it a proud milestone that reaffirms India’s commitment to strengthening the integrity of the international financial system.

The FATF is the Paris-based inter-governmental body that sets global standards to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of proliferation. Its Presidency runs on a two-year term, with the Vice-President assisting the President in carrying out the organisation’s mandate.
